      The county lies on the southeastern edge of the High Plains, a subdivision of the Great Plains of the United States. Locally, this part of the State is referred to as the "South Plains." The high, flat, undissected surface of the High Plains constituting the northern part of the county grades southward through Midland County to a dissected Author: E. H. Templin, J. A. Kerr.
